Kerstin, then 19 years old, had fallen critically ill, and Josef was forced to take her to a local hospital. He even threatened to gas them if they ever attempted to escape, a threat that on the face of it now seemed an empty one designed to inspire fear because of the lack of a gas chamber in the basement.Įlisabeth’s more than two-decade-long ordeal would come to an end in April 2008, and it all started in the worst possible manner. While the three kids were raised upstairs, Elisabeth, and the three other children, including her oldest, Kerstin, who was with her remained her father’s prisoner. He was also found in similar circumstances to his older sisters. The last of the three children raised by Elisabeth’s mom was Alexander who was taken upstairs when he was just fifteen months old. The incident was reported to the police but the assumption was that Josef made the call with a recording of Elisabeth’s voice. She requested that Monika be taken care of. Not long after she was found, Rosemarie got a call from who she believed to be Elisabeth because the person on the other end of the line sounded like Elisabeth. Three of Elisabeth’s surviving six children were raised by her mother, Rosemarie, after her father had concocted a perfectly believable story of how Elisabeth had abandoned the children at the doorstep of the family home. The youngest of Elisabeth’s seven children for her father is a son named Felix, who was born on December 16, 2002. Michael died after less than three days and was cremated by Josef. On April 28, 1996, Elisabeth gave birth to twin boys, Michael and Alexander. Monika, the fourth child was born on February 26, 1994. Elisabeth welcomed her third child, Lisa, on August 29, 1992. Stefan, Elisabeth’s first son, and second child with her father, was born on February 1, 1990. The first child, a daughter named Kerstin, was born on August 30, 1988.

The daily sexual assaults led to the birth of seven children. His suppressed feelings and his failed relationship with his mother made him want to compensate by controlling somebody completely. Aged seven, during the Second World War, he was sent down to the cellar of their home alone during air raids and was terrified he would go back up to find his mother dead.ĭr Kastner said Fritzl developed a technique for dealing with his constant fear by pushing his emotions into the 'cellar of his soul'. Fritzl, she said, grew up in a home ruled by fear. Fritzl's only value to her was as proof that she was not barren.

She said Fritzl's mother had feared she was infertile and had simply sought out a man to have sex with to prove that she could have children. Yesterday, Dr Adelheid Kastner, the psychiatrist who had assessed Fritzl following his arrest, drew a disturbing psychological profile of the rapist who has been dubbed Austria's 'Incest Monster'. His crimes only came to light last April when one of their daughters became seriously ill and Fritzl was persuaded to take her to hospital. During that time, he fathered seven children through the incestuous relationship. He is estimated to have raped her 3,000 times.

Fritzl kidnapped and drugged Elisabeth in 1984, when she was 18 and kept her incarcerated in a cellar beneath his home in the Austrian town of Amstetten for 24 years.
